Genetics and molecular biologyThe honours degree in Genetics, thefirst in Malaysia, was formallyintroduced in 1966. Thiswell-established programme offersvarious courses pertaining to the fastadvancing field of genetics, coveringtopics ranging from fundamental geneticsto the latest techniques employed inmolecular biology, genetic engineeringand biotechnology. As students progressin the programme, they will acquire anextensive and practical knowledge ofgenome analysis, applications ofrecombinant DNA technology andbiotechnology.

Students will also beexposed to current ethical, legal andsocial issues and concerns on theutilisation of genetic information andtechnology. The programme also offers awide range of opportunities forpostgraduate training by research invarious labs in the fields of plantbiotechnology, genomics, gene regulationstudies and medical biotechnology.All academic members in this programmeare active researchers and have links toother institutions worldwide. Theseinclude Research collaboration with
